It is hard to talk about Survivor when someone you like gets voted out. In Survivor 47 episode 3, that topic comes far too close to home for the RHAP community. Perhaps tonight’s vote was the right move for those who casted their votes, but based on what was shown at this point, it seems sudden for tonight’s castaway to be sent packing.
Survivor 47 Episode 3 Delivers More Power
There are times in Survivor when players will rub each other the wrong way. Perhaps one person is too loud or builds a shelter a certain way, but there are times when players become enemies. Whether that conflict translates beyond the reality TV screen is another thing altogether, but that small-screen conflict came to pass in Survivor 47 episode 3.
The Lavo (red) tribe had yet gone to tribal council in the first two episodes, but Rome’s presence on the beach seemed to bother several of his tribemates. Tonight’s episode seemed to highlight his knowledge of fishing, wanting to build the fire, while also hoping others would step up to build the fire or get the pot ready.
It’s a valid point to hope others will lend a helping hand, but it appeared that Rome was a very hands-on person when taking care of everything involved with catching and preparing the fish. It’s also clear Rome has a bounty of advantages that can help him move forward this season. He has a hidden immunity idol that is valid for the first tribal council appearance. He also went on a journey where he had to reach into a bag, with a 2-out-of-3 chance of pulling out a “Lose Your Vote,” but he grabbed the “Steal a Vote.”
Rome pulled in Teeny last week to share his beware advantage, before she betrayed him and shared that info with Kishan. Even though Rome walked on Teeny and Kishan looking at his hidden advantage without him, he still shared how he earned the “steal a vote” advantage with Teeny. From a couch critic’s position (like mine), it would appear this semblance of loyalty of sharing information hooked Teeny and Kishan for future votes.
Losing an Immunity Challenge Seemed to Seal One of Two’s Fates
Never have I wanted a tribe to avoid losing an immunity challenge on Survivor than I wanted Lavo to avoid losing tonight. Perhaps that’s my love of the RHAP community. Maybe that is just a thought specific to this season, but it is difficult to be purely objective in this moment. It is certain to say that once Lavo lost, it was clear it was between Aysha and Sol.
It never seemed possible for those two to get out of this hole after the immunity challenge was lost. When they would talk to others, it all felt like a smokescreen. When Aysha spoke to Teeny and Kishan, they mentioned that Rome might play an idol for Genevieve or himself (because they’re so tight). When did that duo happen? When Rome said he wanted to get Sol out since day 1, when did that happen?
So, although the final vote seemed like it was clearly between two players, there did seem to be some ambiguity to how tight players were or why they weren’t more options present. Could Rome getting the “steal a vote” solidified Teeny and Kishan towards him? If they voted against him tonight, leaving only five players left, he and Genevieve could vote how they wanted – and he could steal one of the other three players’ votes to vote out whoever he wanted.
Perhaps Survivor 47 episode 3 came down to an unavoidable vote, because there wasn’t a way to alter the vote without risking their own game. And Aysha (also my winner pick) was sent home. It is very clear that Sol is in a very bad spot moving forward, so his future in the game would seem to involve winning immunity or swapping tribes.
