High Emotions Behind Survivor 47 Premiere
One player has an entire podcast community behind her - and I'm here for it!
Survivor has returned with its 47th season and fans of Rob Has A Podcast rejoice! That’s right, the longtime podcast network gets to see one of its own, Aysha Welch, earn a spot in Survivor 47 and the world is her oyster. It looks to be (potentially) another great cast and Survivor 47 episode 1 delivers some moments where certain castaways may have long-term potential.
BEWARE SPOILERS BELOW!!!
Moments That Stood Out on Survivor 47 Episode 1
Should we talk about Rome over on Lavo (red tribe) clinging upside down in the water well as he searched for a key? Well, he, along with Gabe on Tuku (blue tribe), found a beware advantage on their own beaches and proceeded to approach their advantages in separate ways. Based on what we saw air on CBS, Rome seemed to separate himself from the rest of his tribe as he searched for advantages.
Although Gabe didn’t completely convince TK (Terran Foster) of randomly finding a key, he does have Sue’s support as a lookout as he eventually secures a hidden immunity idol that is good for three tribal councils. On the flip side, it appears that the entire Lavo tribe is suspicious of Rome. It is especially telling when they find him at the water well and he completely turns and walks away without saying a word.
Another moment that stood out, which completely impacted the outcome in episode 1, is the sequence of events near the end of the immunity challenge. The medical staff came to Andy’s side as the challenge was in its final stage. He uttered phrases to Jeff about how they were going to vote him out – as if he was expecting a medical evacuation at that moment.
After receiving some care, and Gata (yellow tribe) losing the challenge, Andy shares his feelings of being unliked, and how he’s going to turn into survival mode where he throws his best friend (Jon) under the bus to stay in the game. Um, excuse me? Jon handled the moment delicately, and somehow, he even responded in a calm manner when others told him they were going to tell Andy to vote for Jon since he already threw his name out there.
At what point do castaways start internally screaming?
Did the Survivor 47 Premiere Give Fans an Epic Start to the Season?
Survivor 47 episode 1 was a very good start to the season. It’s frustrating to see a player bombarded so publicly and then be ousted in that very episode. If fans of Survivor have learned anything, it is possible to do little-to-nothing wrong and still get voted out of the game.
Yes, the final vote out (Jon) is somewhat surprising after what appeared to be a cataclysmic collapse of one’s social game (Andy), but there were some other highlights that still made this a strong first episode. The challenge where Aysha and TK were sent off and competed against each other for supplies was excellent. It was definitely a refreshing change from the “sweat or savvy” challenge from previous seasons.
It’s also notable how there was lighthearted, funny moments, including Teeny being asked about how dorky she looked – and someone gave her a 4.5 (I think that was the number). My wife and I both laughed-out-loud at that and it’s good to see the castaways bonding in a way where they’re having fun together.
It’s unfortunate to see another player’s game come to a crushing halt because of another player’s outburst, but the next key thing to look for in the upcoming episode(s) is whether or not Andy will rebound or not – and what that might mean for the entire tribe. On the flip side, what will the discussions around advantages be on the other two tribes? Will Rome secure an idol? Can he recover from everyone’s suspicions? Will Gabe and Sue’s alliance become the tightest duo of this Survivor season?
As for a winner pick, I am 100% going with Aysha. Besides having a solid understanding of the game, her ability to adapt and connect with tribemates makes her completely capable of making it to the end. And next Wednesday cannot get here soon enough!
