Survivor 47 Episode 2: Return of the Outburst
Will the most vocal person in Survivor 47 survive again?
Survivor 47 is already full of surprises. There was an outburst after the immunity challenge in episode 1, which threw Jon Lovett under the bus (and he was subsequently voted out). There was another outburst after the immunity challenge in episode 2, but would the outburst maker be safe this week?
It is safe to say that finding advantages in Survivor has become a “share what you know” playing style, more than a “I’m not telling anyone at all costs.” In this season, we’ve already seen Gabe running around with the beware advantage, where TK found him near a key after deciphering steps in the immunity idol search process. Rome was literally upside down in the water well last week in his idol hunt, which would’ve been unsuspicious if he didn’t immediately turn and walk away from his tribemates when they approached and said “hi.”
Survivor 47 Episode 2 Changing of the Guard
After last week’s episode, it was clear that Andy was in dire straits after blowing up after the immunity challenge, targeting Jon, and then having him voted out. Survivor 47 episode 2 focused on his restrained approach, with Sam being his babysitter, until Sam had to use the restroom. Then, Andy immediately focused on needing to find an idol and Sam was permanently fired from being a babysitter ever again.
What’s even worse (for Andy), he finds the beware advantage and then decides to leave it for another time. But, however, in that time, Sam ultimately finds it. He also fills in the rest of the tribe at various points and ultimately secures himself a hidden immunity idol that’s valid for one tribal council. Now, if you could replay the moment when Sam tells Sierra (his #1) that he wants to play the idol for Andy – that’s what you call a priceless image.
You could frame that image on a wall and know exactly the moment in Survivor 47 that it references. I’m not sure why Sam believes he can be Andy’s ally when it was already proven what Andy does to his allies when push comes to shove. Perhaps his read is better than Andy’s reaction in episode 1; we’ll have to wait and see, which is relevant since the Gata (yellow) tribe did not lose the immunity challenge this week.
Should One Be Quiet After Losing Immunity in Survivor 47?
Last week, Andy talked about being an outcast and openly talked about backstabbing Jon, which made him have to defend his position in the game. During this week’s episode, host Jeff Probst mentioned seeing smiling faces on the losing Tuku (blue) tribe, which caused a reactionary response from TK. Even though he mentioned later in the episode that he wasn’t referring to anyone in particular, it clearly left an impact.
Despite aligning with TK and Kyle earlier in Survivor 47 episode 2, Tiyana was clearly annoyed with TK’s message about losing after the immunity challenge. Although TK and Kyle were ready to vote out Sue as the “weakest link” of the tribe, it was clear to Gabe that there was an opening for a potential blindside. In this case, there were enough votes to swing towards TK and send him home much earlier than he expected.
What’s even more surprising than TK being sent home (or Sue if she’d gotten most of the votes) is Gabe playing his hidden immunity idol for himself. Wait – what? Why did he play the idol for himself? From a viewer’s standpoint, it seems like the two obvious vote-getters were going to be between TK and Sue. If that were the case, it seems like Gabe would be in the clear to save his idol for a future tribal council.
Yes, last season was full of players feeling “so comfortable where they refuse to play their idols.” This particular idol play seemed more about protection than worrying about whether or not the votes were coming his way. In this moment, I don’t know if he felt a need to burn the idol because he didn’t know where the votes were going with any certainty, or if it made sense to get rid of the idol to reduce his threat level. That would be an interesting question to ask Gabe about his hidden immunity idol play.
What Tribe Goes to Tribal Council in Survivor 47 Next?
It almost seems impossible to know who will go home week-to-week, but it does seem like the Gata and Tuku have less of a cohesive unit than Lavo (red). Despite last week’s “upside down” shenanigans from Rome, their ability to make a strong stand within the challenges seems greater than the rest.
If I had to guess on who might be in trouble next week, I would probably stick with one of those tribes and then pick whoever has less of a foothold within that group. If Gata goes to tribal council next week, I would probably say Anika is in trouble, because Sam wants to play his idol for Andy. If Tuku goes to tribal, Kyle could see himself on the outs for simply being on the wrong side of the votes.
Who would you have voted out this week? Would you have voted for TK, Sue, or another Tuku tribemate? Let me know in the comments!
