Make Your Bids for Survivor 47 Episode 8
The Survivor auction returns with the best foodie delights unfolding
Survivor 47 episode 8 gives viewers one of the best episodes from the new era. The Survivor auction returns, there’s a hidden immunity idol search, and there are a lot of potential targets that make for an interesting storyline tonight.
To be clear, it was great to see Sol find the advantage last week and then watch Rachel receive safety without power and walk out of tribal council. It was equally great to see him confess that he saved her. Plus, Rachel admitted she suspected him as her savior, and now we have the potential for a fantastic duo to (hopefully) make a deep run into the Survivor game.
Going Once, Twice, Sold at the Survivor 47 Auction
The Survivor auction is just a joy to watch. It is fun to see players bidding on various items, covered or not, and then seeing their reactions after an amazing snack or meal is won. It’s a much needed break from reality, and Survivor was a major hit tonight. Much like the Survivor 45 auction, players had to search the Fijian jungle for scrolls that had money hidden inside.
No scroll was alike as each one had varying amounts of money inside. Andy did not find any, but if he had, it could’ve been worth a lot. Kyle only found two and he had nearly $600 in loot to spend on auction items. Now, the person left with the most amount of money at the end of the auction will lose their vote at tribal council. Boo!!! Plus, with a potential 15 rounds of items to bid for, only 5 are guaranteed.
Host Jeff Probst draws a random number from a bag (between 6 and 15) and that number determines how many rounds of bidding there will be. If possible, it would be great to have them give out all 15 rounds and then see how people manage their money, especially if they continue to keep the “lose your vote” aspect.
Fast forward to Rachel who had an eerie feeling that the item she won could be a burger – and it was a freaking burger with fries and a beer! What a gut feeling to have, and she was also rewarded by the mini scroll hidden in her French fries. This advantage was a clue to a hidden immunity idol where the idol was sewn into one of the two tarps covering their bamboo bed in camp. Did she get the idol?
Yes, yes, she did. And she did it with a machete while everyone was sitting on the bed and she was on the backside of the bed at the bottom corner of the tarp, shredding underneath the tarp to retrieve the idol. For everyone who had mentioned getting out Rache iln previous episodes, because she’s apparently “sneaky,” why wouldn’t you be watching her literally carving an idol out of the tarp right behind you?
About the Survivor 47 Episode 8 Vote
This episode’s vote seemed to come down to a few different options. Gabe was mentioned early, but then wasn’t mentioned again. Rachel was mentioned (again), but so was the idea of splitting up Sierra and Sam. Teeny didn’t like Sierra’s name being tossed out, because she was closer to her than Sam. Sol didn’t like Rachel being targeted, because he literally just saved her.
Yes, Rachel found a hidden immunity idol, but that doesn’t do any good (like last season) if people are able to properly blindside you. Since she was the target last week, and her name was brought up in tonight’s episode, it makes sense that she might be the primary target. On the other side, Andy does not like feeling like Sam and Sierra’s goat to pull along as a disposable player. On a quick side note, Sam’s description at tribal council of comparing the other players to animals he’s herding isn’t necessarily a great analogy for others to hear.
In a fantastic move, uncertain after the tribal council discussion, Rachel decides to play her shot in the dark. Although it fails to secure her immunity, it gives her the chance to watch the other players’ reactions as they see her play it and then see it fail. This is an incredible moment to witness, because viewers get to see her watching as the reactions are underwhelming, giving her information to not play her hidden immunity idol.
The votes are read and it’s a tie between Sierra and Sam. In the past, a tie between two players meant that those two players will not vote, because they’ll just vote against each other. However, Sam lost his vote in the auction because he had the most money remaining when the auction ended (which is still a new aspect to the auction I hope they’ll continue to tweak). A big thank you shout out to someone on Twitter explaining that part to me!
Since he doesn’t have a vote and Sierra did vote initially, she can still cast a vote in the revote and Sam cannot. Amazingly enough, it wasn’t enough as the rest of the tribe voted Sierra out and became the first member of the jury. The jury process is a huge component to the game as they eventually vote for a winner, so hopefully this will be a glass half-full moment for Sierra as she exits the game.
What were your thoughts on this episode? Do you love the Survivor auction? Is there anything you would change?
