The Neverending Streamer: A Journey into TV & Film
A Substack Trek Through Streaming Entertainment
How does one start a Substack? How does anyone start anything? As a writer, the beginning is always the most difficult thing for me. Whether an article, book, or television show, the opening is whatever hooks me or makes me feel connected or comfortable to whatever story is being told. And as I say that, and perhaps ramble as I sometimes do, I realize I have already started by forgetting to introduce myself.
Hi. I’m Travis (or Trav) and I’m diving into my first Substack experience. I have always been captivated by incredible, emotional performances in TV and film. From my earlier years with the crew of NCC-1701-D, or a more recent series revolving around Fringe events, characters can truly connect with me. So, it shouldn’t be surprising that I’ve been a published writer for something like 13 years.
From published fictional works or articles through various entertainment sites, I have done my best to immerse myself further and further into many fictional worlds. And, of course, some reality TV here and there as well. I mean, Survivor has been around for a long time for a reason and it continues to capture my attention.
Why Substack? Why now?
My most amazing partner-in-crime, Meghan, mentioned Substack recently. On top of being incredibly supportive of my writing career, she understands how much I want to succeed and contribute to our family by means of being financially stable on this career path. I’d heard of Substack, even followed a couple of people, but never really dove into what it meant to have my own.
It appears Substack will give me the freedom to write about what I want and build a community specifically around me. Does that feel weird? Yeah, kind of. But, I love the idea of setting my own content calendar and seeing if people will follow along.
For my friends following me right now, thank you for continuing to support me. If you’re new to me or what I’ve written before, thank you for coming this far. And if you’ve made it this far, maybe, you’ll consider sticking around for longer. I’ve covered hit shows like Survivor on CBS, Moon Knight and The Mandalorian on Disney+, Kaleidoscope on Netflix, and even explored what a second season of Paper Girls would’ve looked like, because it was great (just like the comic book series) – and I still can’t believe they cancelled it.
So, anyways, why now? Well, why not? The ability to cover a variety of shows that I like is really appealing. Will everyone like the shows I like? No, but I have to imagine there are others who enjoy a mix of shows similar to my own tastes and want to follow along.
What’s the Deal with Paid Subscriptions?
Paid subscriptions will do exactly what you think it might do. Help pay bills. Maybe pay for sports registrations for my kids. Maybe a special dinner when we travel each summer. Do you have to pay? Absolutely not. If you don’t have the means or simply don’t want to, please subscribe for free and get those occasional posts. And if you can spread the word, that would be equally great.
For those who pay monthly or annually, you’ll be able to post comments and have access to all posts new and old. Founding members will have some form of access to a dedicated chat where we can sometimes chat about our favorite shows and movies, while also giving me feedback on what you’d like to see on the channel. Maybe this will include polls where you can vote on what I write about?
This entire Substack thing is a work in progress, so I won’t admit to it being perfect. I can only hope it’s as satisfying to read and connect with other subscribers in the Neverending Streamer community as it will be for me to write and connect with you all. I will generate weekly posts, but depending on when series release, that may increase.
For example, Survivor is a show I love to cover and has a season in the spring and fall. If another show comes on during that time, I’ll have multiple posts per week. I want to provide content where I highlight characters or scenes that resonate to us in the real world, because finding something or someone to connect to in a fictional world can provide meaning or an emotional outlet, even when we didn’t know we needed it.
If you’re looking to discover content through that lens, please follow along for the Neverending Streamer. Subscribe in any way that works best for you, and if you’re willing to subscribe, please consider sharing this with others as well.
No clever signs offs. Hopefully, just fun articles and wonderful interactions along the way.
