Fallout episode 3 gives viewers a smattering of different events, ranging from Lucy’s run-in with “The Ghoul,” Maximus’ run-in with thieves, and a look at what the “vault dwellers” from Vault 33 are up to. We also saw the gruesome end result of the decapitated body from – uh, spoiler alert – the guy who told Lucy to cut his freaking head off.
Yes, it was definitely wild to see the lifeless body, er, minus a head, laying in its final resting spot after he took a cyanide pill. Poor Wilzig. But we can’t harp too long on the dead as we see Lucy moving on, carrying his head, and ultimately building another fire heading into the evening hours. What? Did Wilzig teach you nothing, Lucy?! I kid. Seriously, though, you were there – you saw the gigantically mutated cockroach, right?
About Last Week’s Decapitation
It’s safe to say I’m glad they did not provide the visuals with regards to Lucy’s handiwork. Fallout episode 3 does not leave room to the imagination as she literally carries his head around and even props him up by the fire. She also plants a tracking device into his nose, but not until after she realized something was implanted in his neck. Clearly, he’s a high-value target…even if it is just his head.
It’s safe to say the tracking device worked out well for her…until she lost it when a mutated sea creature stole it and took it beneath the surface of the water where she couldn’t follow. If you’ve seen one decapitated head journey the wastelands, sit by the fire, and ultimately get stolen by an underwater creature, you’ve seen them all. Am I right?
If that wasn’t bad enough, the Ghoul surprises Lucy by the water and knocks her out. Her plan to save her father with Wilzig’s head has really taken a sour turn. Plus, the Ghoul uses her for bait to try and lure the sea monster to the surface. It worked like a charm until he gets knocked on his butt and Lucy fights like hell, including using the Ghoul’s leather bag to fend it off.
If we quickly flashback to earlier in the episode, we see the Ghoul ingesting a liquid as he started to have some sort of coughing fit. Fast forward back to the sea creature fight and those vials of liquid were in the bag Lucy used to feed to the monster. Whatever was in those tiny bottles were lost when they broke, which made the mutated cowboy furious and take Lucy across the wastelands to the unknown after the creature escaped.
Maximus Keeps His Knightly Status
The armored suit was damaged and Maximus needed it repaired. Despite having a tooth (or teeth) pulled to earn money to repair it, the ends almost didn’t justify the means when he discovered a band of thieves ready to take his gear. He was beaten and bloodied fairly well, but then grabbed a metal rod, a toilet seat – yes, you read that right – and he stormed back at them with fury. Until they surrounded him again and started beating him while he was against his armor. Fortunately, he was able to gain access to one of the armored arms.
Unfortunately, he squeezed one of the thief’s head like a grape. Let’s just say that fear overtook every other person’s reasoning as they ran away screaming. If you need a further understanding on its gruesomeness, imagine the fight between “The Mountain and the Viper.” Although, it’s still not as bad as that scene from the Game of Thrones, since that scene seemed to take a little bit longer to play out its crushing ending.
On top of protecting his gear, he lied to the Brotherhood; stating the squire (himself) was killed in battle. Although he destroyed the communication device, it was soon clear another squire was sent to aid him in his mission. Despite his tumultuous relationship with Thaddeus (new squire) earlier in the season, it’s clear he liked Maximus and felt remorseful about his death.
It’s also fair to point out that Maximus didn’t do what was done to him – highlighting the “golden rule” Lucy mentioned about doing “unto others as you’d have done unto you” – and he did not have his squire search ahead. He told Thaddeus to get to shore while he waited in the water. After both having saved each other from the sea creature, and ultimately defeating it, they find the golden egg; er, well, Wilzig’s head.
Does Fallout Episode 3 Tell Us What Will Happen Next?
It’s not entirely clear what we’ll see in the next episode, but there seem to be some probable scenarios. The Ghoul needs more of the medicine or drugs from his broken vials, so it’s likely he’s going to a place he can get more. Maximus lied to the Brotherhood, but now he’s discovered “The Target,” or at least his head, so it’s safe to say they’ll be heading home.
When he reaches home, will they overlook his deception after seeing his success? Or will he be deemed not worthy by being dishonest or failing as squire? Also, what about the dog? The Ghoul just left him by the water after leaving with Lucy, but was there licking the decapitated head of his former owner, so does that mean he’ll go home with Maximus?
There’s plenty to dive into with regards to Fallout episode 3, and we didn’t even talk about Vault 33 wanting to rehabilitate those who murdered “vault dwellers.” Will Lucy’s brother seek vengeance and kill them? We also see Cooper Howard (aka the Ghoul) in a flashback trying on a Vault uniform for an advertisement. Was that all or was he supposed to be a part of their underground plan at some point?
It’s entertaining to see these puzzle pieces laid out onto the table. Now, it’s the excitement of seeing the final picture come together piece by piece as Fallout continues.
