There are some grizzly scenes in Fallout, but the overall theme presents an enjoyable experience on the small screen. The creators behind Fallout episode 4, and the entire series thus far, have riddled a dystopian wasteland with questions, comical moments, and quirky characters that all adds up to an episodic delight worth binging.
Yes, there are a couple of severed fingers. And, well, there’s the headshot, which then leads to slicing up the dead body for some “ass jerky.” So, maybe delightful isn’t the best word to describe this Prime Video series, but it is fun watching the characters interact and wandering through to desert to see “how deep the rabbit hole goes.” If you’re looking for a series that grabs and maintains your attention throughout, then maybe you’ll think it’s delightful, too; minus the whole bloody flesh chewing stuff, of course.
Lucy is Surely a Goner
It is clear that the “Ghoul” is sick after all of his vials broke in episode 3, but he’s come up with another plan to get more drugs to keep himself from turning into what can best be described as a bloody-thirsty zombie. His plan: Sell Lucy to have her organs cut out from her in exchange for 60 vials.
If there was a plus side to any of this, the finger the Ghoul cut off her hand (after she bit one of his off), was surgically repaired with another finger. Silver lining, right? Unfortunately, the two people in charge of this place where they store zombie-like mutated folks won’t lift a finger to help Lucy as the robot prepares to saw her insides out of her.
One thing is for sure: If you think Lucy McClean is out of it, guess again. Her willpower and tenacity are beyond most others in this show. She frees herself from her shackles, stops and refits the robot for her bidding, and then frees all of the locked-up mutants. Oh, this is the point where she realizes that some of those people who look like the Ghoul eventually turn into speed-demons who go straight for the jugular. Again, another bloody scene, but Lucy manages to make it out alive.
Lucy is Surely Sticking to the Golden Rule
Lucy might one day turn into a mutant like the Ghoul, but she will not undo what she believes is the right thing to do at the end of the day. Despite seeing her captor lying on the ground in need of a vial to heal himself, she gives him the vials. She could’ve easily smashed them all or left without saying a word, but she saved him from a fate worse than death.
On top of this “vault dweller” being a standup citizen, everything isn’t what it appears to be when it comes to “vault life.” Lucy’s brother continues to investigate what happened in Vault 32 after invaders killed many of Vault 33. Not only has there not been any life indicated in Vault 32 for the past two years, it appears they all killed each other.
If they did kill each other, who let the invaders in? As if there weren’t enough twists in this series already, Fallout episode 4 reveals a huge nugget of information that leads to more questions. Lucy earlier confessed to the Ghoul how her mother starved to death, so how is it possible her mother’s ID code was used to open Vault 32 from the outside?
Fallout is Great: Plain and Simple
There are so many unanswered questions that make Fallout worthy of one’s attention. Is Lucy’s father or mother a villain in this story? There wasn’t even any mention of Maximus in this episode, so what will happen when he returns home with the missing head? Will the Ghoul give Lucy any kind of loyalty or aid in the future for saving him?
Yes, getting answers will always be appreciated, but in the meantime, wondering about those questions and where the story will lead next is all I need to continue watching.
