The Wrecking Crew Rocks
Balancing frayed relationships and chaotic fights with humor and heart
The Wrecking Crew is totally fun and absolutely worth rewatching. The 2026 film highlights a pair of estranged brothers, played by Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista, who come together when the death of their equally estranged father looks like murder. Reuniting in beautiful Hawaii sets the stage for wonderful comedic chemistry between Momoa, Bautista, and the rest of the cast, while piledriving brutally violent action sequences that might make some squeamish if seeing a lot of blood and torn off limbs isn’t your kind of jam.
Jonny and James (Momoa/Bautista) deliver a disgruntled approach to being in the same room together, while finding ways to mock or scream at each other – with or without bullets flying all around them. Their relationship is more than strained; it’s broken. They’re unable to trust each other at the start of this film, and while their efforts move the investigation forward, the turmoil and trauma from their past resurfaces in a way that’s raw and emotionally charged.
The Wrecking Crew gives viewers something unexpected (to me at least), a heartfelt connection to these brothers and their families. The years of pain and anger result in violent outbursts, but turns into a believable discussion about what it was like for them when things fell apart for them at a younger age. The emotional sequences in this film hit deep in a way that only amplifies the overall experience, and with this film being a fantastically wild ride, the bonds between its characters cements its place amongst all-time action movie greats.
The Wrecking Crew: Top Notch, No Complaints
I’ve seen the film three times already. Twice on my own and a third with my wife. Yes, Meghan likes the film, but it’s too gory for her. The Wrecking Crew lands itself as one of my favorite action or action-comedy movies. No hesitation in saying that. It’s one of the most rewatchable movies I can think of in recent memory, and it stems from the cast, the location, and this incredible balance between volatile sequences that help appreciate the calm when it presents itself onscreen. Throw in incredible fight sequences, humorous lines, and you’ve found a definite winner.
The Wrecking Crew highlights what it means for land to be sacred, not to be overly commercialized, and what it looks like when greedy evildoers want to come in and make a profit by building luxury hotels or casinos. 100% will you root for these brothers as they try to solve their father’s death, while uncovering a greater conspiracy that threatens everyone’s life around them. You will also laugh with them as they make fun of each other. Though, even more important, you’ll feel connected to them when wounds begin to heal and their banter becomes friendlier rather than hate-fueled.
Do they need to make a sequel? No, because this movie stands on its own. Would I love to see Momoa and Bautista in another movie. Abso-freaking-lutely!
